PURPOSE: A display device and a method for manufacturing the display device are provided to contribute to reduction of the ratio of defective products and to increase the yield of products. CONSTITUTION: A display device includes the first electrode plate, the second electrode plate, and a light modulating layer. The first electrode plate includes a plurality of first electrode lines(32a,32b,32c) arranged substantially parallel to each other on the first insulating substrate, and a plurality of pixel electrodes arranged in the form of a matrix and electrically coupled to the first electrode lines via respective switch elements. The second electrode plate includes an electrode formed on the second insulating substrate and opposed to the pixel electrodes. The light modulating layer is held between the pixel electrodes and electrodes opposed thereto. At least one of each adjacent pair of the first electrode lines has at least one discharge projection(37a,37b,37c,37d,37e,37f,37g,37h,37i,37j) extending toward the other of the adjacent pair.
