PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the reduction of the display quality due to the impurities invading into a liquid crystal display element during a manufacturing process and from the exterior. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display element wherein a liquid crystal 24 is interposed between two substrates 11 and 12 having a sealing material 25 disposed on the periphery thereof and opposed to each other, columnar spacers 18 regulating the interval between the two substrates are disposed at same intervals on light shielding layers 14 in a display area on at least one substrate and the columnar spacers 18 contain an ion adsorbing agent 17. Therefore, since ions of impurities deteriorating the display quality of the liquid crystal display element and invading during the manufacturing process and from the exterior are adsorbed by the ion adsorbing agent 17 in the columnar spacers 18 formed on the light shielding layer 14 having nothing to do with display, the reduction of the display quality of the liquid crystal display element is not generated. Thus, the liquid crystal display element excellent in reliability can be obtained. |
