1,3-diamino-4-(aminomethyl)-benzene derivatives are new. 1,3-Diamino-4-(aminomethyl)-benzene derivatives of formula (I) or their physiologically tolerable, water-soluble salts are new. R1, R2 = H, 1-5 C alkyl, 2-4C hydroxyalkyl or 3-4C dihydroxy-alkyl; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R4, R5 = H, 1-2C alkoxy, 1-6C alkyl, 3-6C unsaturated alkyl, 2-4C hydroxyalkyl, 3-4C dihydroxyalkyl, amino- dimethylamino-, acetylamino-, methoxy-, or ethoxy-alkyl (all with 2-4C alkyl groups), 1-4C cyano-, carboxy- or aminocarbonyl-alkyl, pyridylmethyl, furfuryl, thienylmethyl, substituted pyridyl or a group of formula (II), or R4 plus R5 and the linking N may form a piperidyl, morpholinyl or pyrrolidyl ring (all substituted with R11) or a piperazinyl ring (substituted with R11 in the ring and with R12 on the other nitrogen); R6-R10 = H, halogen (F, Cl, Br or I), CN, hydroxyl, 1-4C alkoxy or alkylthio, 1-5C alkyl, mercapto, nitro, amino, alkylamino, di(1-6C alkyl)-amino, (dihydroxy-(3-4C alkyl))-amino, di-(1-4C hydroxyalkyl)amino, (1-4C hydroxyalkyl)-(1-6C alkyl)-amino, trifluoromethyl, -CHO, -COCH3, -Si(CH3)3, 1-4C hydroxyalkyl, 2-4C dihydroxyalkyl, carboxyl or pyrroldinyl, or two adjacent groups may form a -O-CH2-O- bridge; R11 = H, OH, COOH, aminocarbonyl or hydroxymethyl; R12 = H or 1-6C alkyl; and n = 0 or 1. An Independent claim is included for a medium for dyeing keratin fibres which is based on a developer-coupler combination in which the coupler consists of compound(s) (I).
