Polarization transformer for optical transmission technology, uses highest value of refractive index difference between main modes

A polarization transformer has a waveguide (WG) extending along one direction of propagation (PRD) and has two main modes having a refractive index difference (Delta n). An angle (Theta) deviating from zero and Pi is provided between the direction of propagation (PRD) and the main axis (Dmax) and by its selection as the direction of propagation (PRD) would result in the highest value of the refractive index difference (Delta n).
