Optical fiber sensor comprises encased optical waveguide (10) having interaction region (13) to interact with analytes (50). Optical waveguide comprises fiber Bragg grid (20), casing (12) of guide is partially removed and metal layer (30) is arranged on waveguide in region with partially removed casing. Waveguide in interacting region has birefringence with beat length of not more than 4 mm. Preferred Features: The metal layer has a thickness of not more than 1 mu m, preferably not more than 50 nm. An auxiliary layer is formed on the metal layer. A first adaptive layer is formed on the metal layer. A second adaptive layer is arranged between the waveguide and the metal layer.
