PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus are provided which manufacture drinking water by capturing and discharging vapor in air using a sorption material. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for manufacturing drinking water comprises two or more of closed type sorption material layers each of which are operated in a row; a fan(99) which blows air so that the air permeates the sorption material layers; a means for heating the sorption material layers; and a liquefaction chamber which is equipped with a cooling device and captures vapor coming out of the sorption material layers and liquefying the captured vapor, wherein the apparatus further comprises a changeover means for guiding air so that the air blown from the fan(99) permeates one sorption material layer except other sorption material layer(s), a water storage chamber(112), a pumping means for pumping water into the water storage chamber from the liquefaction chamber and a disinfection means for disinfecting water in the liquefaction chamber and the water storage chamber(112), and the disinfection means is equipped with an ozone trickler. The method for manufacturing drinking water comprises the steps of dehydrating the air by pulling or pushing moisture contained air so that the air permeates the sorption material layers; heating the sorption material layers so as to pull out water adsorbed in the sorption material layers; capturing and liquefying vapor coming out in the sorption material layer heating step; and collecting water coming out in the vapor capturing and liquefying step, wherein the method further comprises the step of disinfecting the collected water.
