A method and a system comprising forest harvesting by means of a harvesting machine (1) comprising a vehicle (2) and a harvesting arrangement (3) mounted thereon, the position of the growth location of a tree being determined in connection with the felling of the tree by the harvesting machine (1), and this position information being stored in a database. In connection with the felling, the end surface or a part of the end surface of a piece of timber (44) obtained from the tree is detected or reproduced by a detection/reproduction device (12). The digital reproduction, or information identifying the piece of timber, obtained via the detection/reproduction device is stored in a database in such a manner that this reproduction/information is associated to the stored position information that indicates the growth location of the tree from which the piece of timber is obtained. The invention also relates to an arrangement (3) for forest harvesting comprising a detection/reproduction device (12). |
