PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module, in which an optical waveguide substrate and an optical fiber are mounted in a simple structure at a highly precise relative position on an mounting substrate, and in which optical coupling is efficiently performed between the optical waveguide and the optical fiber, and also to provide the manufacturing method of his module. SOLUTION: On the optical waveguide substrate 1, mounting projections 12 are provided, which are formed simultaneously with the core 11 of the optical waveguide; and, on the mounting substrate 2, grooves 21 for placing optical fibers, mounting grooves 22 and a groove 23 for storing the optical waveguide are provided, which are formed simultaneously. The mounting projections 12 on the waveguide substrate 1 are fitted to the mounting grooves 22 provided on the mounting substrate 2. The optical fibers 3 are set in the optical fiber placement grooves provided on the mounting substrate 2. A UV-curing or thermosetting resin 41 with a refractive index lower than that of the core 11 of the optical waveguide is inserted and stuck to the mounting substrate. |
