The oxygen content of the inert gas atmosphere corresponds to a thawing point of not more than -40 deg C. The sintered parts are heated to a sintering temperature of 560-620 deg C by circulating the corresponding heated inert gas. An Independent claim is included for a sintering furnace for sintering the aluminum-based sintered parts (23) comprising a binder removal region, a sintering region, a cooling region, a transport system, and sluices. The sintering region has a heater for the sintered parts consisting of indirectly heated heat exchange surfaces (28), a ventilator (31) and an air deflecting device (25) for adjusting the circulating inert gas stream. Preferred Features: The inert gas is nitrogen.
