The invention comprises indium basic trifluoroacetate of the formula In(OH)(CF3COO)2, a method of making it by dissolving indium hydroxide in aqueous trifluoroacetic acid, and the method of forming conducting coatings on vitreous surfaces by flowing a varnish containing the above compound on to the surface and heating to decompose the varnish is described. Tin compounds may be added to the varnish. The method is described in detail. Solvents for the varnish referred to include ethylene glycol monoethyl ether acetate, triethylene glycol dimethyl ether and dioxane, and may be mixed. Specification 748,683, [Group XL (a)], is referred to.ALSO:Indium oxyfluoride is probably formed when the basic indium trifluoroacetate (see Group IV(b)) is made up into a varnish with glycol ether acetate-type or dioxene solvent, spread on vitreous substrates, to give a thin film and heated for example to 600 DEG C. The product is electrically conducting and of low refractive index. Stannic tetrachloride and other tin compounds may be added. The product is useful in making conductive flexible sheets of fibrous glass, and pieces of glass cloth; the resistances of various thicknesses of the film are mentioned. Specification 748,683 [Group XL(a)] is referred to.
|
