<p>Tin-plate comprises soft steel having one face coated with a continuous layer of Fe/Sn of atomic ratio >1 pref. about 4 and contg. rod-shaped crystals of FeSn2 distributed in the surface. The coating is then pref. covered with a layer of pure tin. Specif. the steel is tinned then heat treated at >=500 degrees C pref. 700 degrees C for 30 secs. to 1 min. in a reducing atmos. Esp. used for cans for jam, drinks etc. which can be opened locally by tearing off a strip.</p> |
