PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for measuring friction characteristics of wires whereby friction characteristics of every wire can be evaluated by correctly measuring surface finish states of the wires even of a coat material of an equal type irrespective of rigidities of the wires with noting that a finished state of a manufactured coil is greatly dependent on the surface finish state of the wire. SOLUTION: According to the method for measuring friction characteristics of wires, when a reference member is moved in a state while the wire to be measured is kept in contact with the reference member, a friction torque is taken from a phase difference of the reference member and the wire generated on the basis of the movement of the reference member. The taken friction torque is used as friction characteristics of the wire, whereby the wire can be highly accurately measured.
