摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix liquid crystal display which has high optical anisotropy and is stable. SOLUTION: The matrix liquid crystal display is composed of two parallel support plates, an integrated nonlinear element and a nematic liquid crystal mixture having a positive dielectric anisotropy of >=+4 and a birefringenceΔn of >=0.12, and has >=98% of a voltage retention after exposure to UV light for 20 h based on that before exposure to UV light. The liquid crystal mixture contains at least one kind selected from compounds represented by formula I (wherein R is a 1-10C alkyl or the like; r is 0 or 1; X is F, Cl, a fluorinated and/or chlorinated alkyl group or the like; L1 is F; L2 is H or F; Y and Z are each H or F; and one of Q1 and Q2 is 1,4-phenylene, 3-fluoro-1,4-phenylene or 3,5-difluoro-1,4-phenylene and the other is CH2CH2, CH2CH2CH2CH2 or single bond).
