METHOD FOR PRODUCING AND SEPARATING ALICYCLIC ALCOHOLS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently separate an alicyclic monool and/or a alicyclic diol from a mixture containing at least the alicyclic monool and the alicyclic diol. SOLUTION: This method for separating the alicyclic alcohol is a method for separating the monodiol and the diol from the mixture containing at least the alicyclic monodol and the alicyclic diol. The method comprises (b) an alicyclic monool crystallization process for subjecting the mixture to a crystallization operation using an aqueous solvent containing at least water to crystallize the alicyclic monool, (c) an extraction process for extracting a residual liquid from which the alicyclic monool is recovered with a mixed solvent of a >=3C alcohol and an alicyclic hydrocarbon and partitioning the alicyclic diol into an organic solvent layer. Further the method may include (d) an alicyclic monool cleaning process for cleaning a crystal obtained by the alicyclic monool crystallization process with an aqueous solution of an alkali.
