PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow easy mating of a projection for caulking formed on a boot band and a caulking pawl, to avoid slide of the boot band during caulking operation, and to allow coping with inferior caulking easily. SOLUTION: A rubber boot covering a constant velocity joint part provided on a drive shaft of a vehicle such as an automobile is fastened and fixed by an annular metal boot band. A projection for caulking is formed at a part of the boot band in a circumference direction and the boot is caulked by plastically deforming the projection with a pair of caulking pawls 51, 53. When a work W is set on a device, the upper side-caulking pawl 51 is widely opened against the lower side-caulking pawl 53. After setting the work W, a slide bar 77 moves forward by a forward movement of an extension head 67, with those movement, the upper side caulking pawl 51 moves to a position described with solid lines from a position described with chain double-dashed lines to temporarily hold the projection for caulking, and caulking is done with more forward movement.
