PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve electrical connection between a carbon commutator segment and a metallic segment having terminals for connecting coil, and at the same time, to firmly fix the commutator segment to the metallic segment and an insulating support body. SOLUTION: A flat commutator is constituted, in such a way that a metallic segment having terminals for connecting coil is fixed to at least the outer periphery of an insulating support body by insulating them from each other and a commutator segment containing carbon as a main ingredient is fixed to a recessed section formed of the insulating support body and metallic segment by insulating them from each other, so that the brush sliding surface of the commutator segment becomes perpendicular to the axial direction of a rotor. In the commutator, in addition, an inserting gap is formed between the inner peripheral surface of the metallic segment and the outer peripheral surface of the commutator segment, and a resilient metallic sheet is inserted into the gap.
