PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet type image forming apparatus capable of wiping an ejection face by using a wiping blade in a simple structure. SOLUTION: A blade holder 36 holds a wiping blade 35 and is constituted such that it is displaced between a wiping position where the wiping blade 35 is brought into contact with an ejection hole face and a shunting position where the wiping blade 35 is not contacted to the ejection hole face. The blade holder 36 is urged to the shunting position by a spring. A position switching member 22 is provided to a portion beneath a recording head 20. An engagement section 36c which is engaged with the position switching member 22 when a carriage is moved to a predetermined position outside a printing region is formed on the blade holder 36. When the position switching member 22 is engaged with the engagement section 36c, the position switching member 22 presses the engagement section 36c along with the movement of the carriage and then the blade holder 22 is moved to the wiping position against the urging force of the spring.
