PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a much superior image preservability even by rapid processing without raising a fog or losing density-gradation balance by carrying out development for a specified time with a specified color developing solution containing specified amounts of a color developing agent and iodide ions. SOLUTION: Development is carried out for 30-120 sec with a color developing solution containing 0.025-0.10 mol/l color developing agent, 6.0×10-7-7.0×10-5 mol/l iodide ions and at least one (co) polymer having a pyrrolidone nucleus in its molecular structure. The polymer may be a vinylpyrrolidone homopolymer or a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone and another monomer. The average molecular weight of the vinylpyrrolidone polymer is 500-800,000, preferably 2,000-400,000.
