PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery having high energy density by covering all or part of oxide particles forming active materials of a positive and a negative electrode with a carbon material, provided by carbonizing an organic substance. SOLUTION: This coin-type lithium battery comprises a positive electrode can 1, a positive electrode collector 2, a positive electrode 3, an electrolyte 5, a negative electrode 6, a negative electrode collector 7 and a negative electrode can 8. An active material, such as an lithium-manganese composite oxide is mixed with an organic substance such as polyvinyl chloride, and the surface of the active material is covered with a carbon material heated and carbonized at a temperature of 1,000 deg.C or below. An electrode mix is prepared by adding and sufficiently mixing a binder such as polytetrafluoroethylene in the covered active material, and formed into a press-molded body by means of press-molding. In this case, each of the active materials of the positive electrode 3 and the negative electrode 6 should be an oxide, and at least one of the electrodes should contain the active material of which surface is covered with the carbon material. Thereby, the filling factor of the active material is improved and the energy density of the battery is improved. |
