<p>A free-standing apparatus (10) for detection and notification of the presence of liquid. The apparatus includes a self-generating alloy power source (15) comprising an alloy of the type which is passive when dry, but which is activated and generates an electrical voltage and current when it and an electrode (16) spaced from it are wetted by conductive liquid which contacts them both; and a transmitter (26) uniquely associated with the power source, receiving power from the source when the source is wetted, to function to transmit a radio frequency signal that will be recognized as being associated with the sensor.</p> |
