PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information reproducing device and an information reproducing method, which accurately follow the positions where data are recorded, by obtaining precise and wide range servo information without being adversely affected by the fluctuation in the correlation of plural pieces of servo information. SOLUTION: The information reproducing device is provided with a position information reader 5, which generates servo information S2 from position information 2 read from a recording medium 20, and an encoder 6 which generates servo information S1 having a detection range that is wider than the information S2. A servo information generator 10, which generates servo error signals, is provided with a forming section 10a, which forms the information S1 into step shapes in accordance with the pitch of the detection range of the information S2, and a computing section 10b which adds the amount corresponding to the number of steps within the detection range of the information S1 to the information S2.
