PURPOSE: A method of constructing database for learning vocabulary and a video apparatus with learning function using the database constructing method, and a method of controlling the video apparatus are provided to facilitate data renewal with an optimum memory size and construct systematic data structure. CONSTITUTION: According to a method of constructing database for learning vocabulary, there is a step(S11) for determining if a learning mode on/off key is input and if learning mode on-key is input(S12). If the learning mode on key is input,, a starting index uploaded from a data base(11) is read out in a step(S13). The starting index is stored in a step(S14). An address in which a corresponding vocabulary learning data exists is computed(S15). A micom(4) reads the corresponding vocabulary learning data from a vocabulary learning data base(11)(S16). The vocabulary learning data is displayed on a cathode ray tube(8) via a video/deflection processing part(7)(S17). The micom(4) determines if a display period is the same as a user-set period(S18), and if so, increases the starting number by one(S19). The micom(4) also determines if the number of repetition is the same as a user-set number of repetition(S20).
