A washer, consisting of fiber-reinforced glass or glass-ceramic, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a component joint (10) comprising a fastener (11) and the above washer; and (b) production of the above washer, by hot pressing granules formed from a mixture of 30 wt.% reinforcing fibers, 40 wt.% sol-gel and 30 wt.% glass powder. Preferred Features: The reinforcing fibers are endless and/or long fibers or short fibers of carbon and/or ceramic. The glass matrix comprises a borosilicate glass or LAS glass-ceramic.
