PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which is made thinner furthermore and secures a sufficient durability and is superior in electromagnetic transduction characteristics and running performance and has a capacity made larger furthermore. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium, a magnetic layer 3 is formed on a long-sized nonmagnetic support body 2. The nonmagnetic support body 2 is an aromatic polyamide film, and the Young's modulus of elasticity in the lengthwise direction is >=1,000 kg/mm<2> , and that in the breadthwise direction is >=1300 kg/mm<2> , and inert particles having 0.02-0.3μm average particle size are added into the aromatic polyamide film to form 10,00-20,000,000 projections per mm<2> on a surface 2a where the magnetic layer 3 is formed. A back coat layer 4 which contains at least a binder and an acicular nonmagnetic pigment is formed on a surface 2b opposite to the surface of the nonmagnetic support body 2 where the magnetic layer 3 is formed.
