PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing device whose operation is improved by inputting the output signal of an external operation detection part which detects that an external operation part is operated in a judging part so that a condition is automatically switched to manual focusing and simultaneously controlling a focus control part in accordance with the output of the external operation part so that focusing can be manually performed. SOLUTION: The output of the external operation detection part 5 which detects that the external operation part 4 performing focusing from the outside is operated is inputted in the focusing function switching judging part 6. By detecting that a user operates the operation part 4 and intends manual focusing, a mode is instantaneously shifted to a manual focusing mode without performing the operation of a function switching part 7 particularly.
