PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fiber having dense fine structure and excellent tensile strength, modulus, etc., and useful as a reinforcing material by converting an amorphous ceramic fiber into a polycrystalline ceramic fiber in an environment containing baron oxide and carbon monoxide. SOLUTION: An amorphous ceramic fiber 1 containing silicon and carbon such as SiCO fiber and SiCOTi fiber is converted in a short time into a polycrystalline ceramic fiber in a 1st furnace having an environment containing boron oxide, carbon monoxide and an arbitrary inert gas at a temperature sufficient for the conversion to the polycrystalline ceramic fiber (1500-1600 deg.C). The obtained fiber is heated in a 2nd furnace 3 optionally in an inert atmosphere at 1900-2000 deg.C to densify the fiber. |
