Benzylamine derivatives represented by general formula (I) or pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, which have an excellent ileal bile acid transporter inhibitory activity, wherein R<1> represents substituted C6-10 aryl, optionally substituted tetrazolyl, C1-6 alkylsulfonyl, C1-6 alkylsulfinyl, or optionally substituted (C6-10 aryl)sulfonylcarbamoylamino; R<2>, R<3>, and R<4> each represents hydrogen; R<5> represents optionally substituted C6-10 aryl; and R<6> represents C1-10 alkyl, a group having -W-R<7>, or optionally substituted C7-16 aralkyl, provided when R<1> is C1-6 alkylsulfonyl or C1-6 alkylsulfinyl, then R<6> is not C1-10 alkyl.
