The heater has inlet and outlet side walls (14) with an outer pipe (12) extending between them. The annular space between the outer pipe and the section of the exhaust pipe between the walls receives a noise insulating packing (28). The length of the inner pipe (24) has additional transmission sections (22) and connecting stubs (18). There is a coating attached to the inner pipe section (24). Both transmission sections define areas with perforations (26) surrounding the circumference of the pipe.
