PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign article insertion detector that makes a portable card reader thin and power-saving. SOLUTION: A detection current supply means 31 supplies a detection current to a contact 35a at an insertion slot for an IC card 2. A potential monitor means 32 judges which of the IC card 2 and a foreign article an inserted body is, under programmed control by monitoring the potential at the contact 35a. A notification signal output means 33 outputs a normalcy notification signal when the potential monitor means 32 judges that the inserted body is an IC card 2 and an abnormality notification signal when it is judged that the inserted body is a foreign article. A power supply control means 34 supplies electric power for reading data out of the IC card 2 when receiving the normalcy notification signal and stops supplying the electric power when receiving the abnormality notification signal. |
