The radial pneumatic tire of this invention has a reduced bead mass and improved rolling resistance. The bead area has a profiled bead filler (24) that extends radially outward from the apex portion (241) with an essentially constant thickness portion (242) and a tapered portion (243). An outer filler strip (26) extends from a point (28) radially inward of the rim flange near the bead core (22) radially outward to a position (27) near the mid height of the tire.
