A layer sequence includes a layer based on a high temperature superconducting material with CuO2 plane-containing unit cells, joined to a non-superconducting layer comprising a material selected from: (i) BaTbO3; (ii) Ba1-xSrxTbO3 (x = 0 to 1); (iii) LaCu1-xTbxO3 (x = 0 to 1); (iv) RCu1-xTbxO3 (R = Nd, Eu or Sm and x = 0 to 1); (v) Ba1-xSrxMO3 (M = Tb, Pr or Ce and x = 0 to 1); (vi) LaCu1-xMxO3 (M = Tb, Pr or Ce and x = 0 to 1); (vii) RCu1-xMxO3 (R = Nd, Eu or Sm, M = Tb, Pr or Ce and x = 0 to 1); (viii) R1-yNyCu1-xMxO3 (R = La, Nd, Eu or Sm, N = Ba or Sr, M = Tb, Pr or Ce, x = 0 to 1 and y = 0 to 1); (ix) R2-yNyCu1-xMxO4 (R = La, Nd, Eu or Sm, N = Ba or Sr, M = Tb, Pr or Ce, x = 0 to 1 and y = 0 to 1); and (vii) A'1-xA"xB'1-yB"yO3 (A' = Ba or Sr, A" = La, Nd, Eu, Sm or Sr, B' = Tb, Pr, Ce or Cu, B" = Y, Yb, Tm, Lu, In, Sc, Sn or Cu, x = 0 to 1 and y = 0 to 1). Also claimed are (a) a multilayer system with several of the above layer sequences; (b) a cryogenic component with one or more of the above layer sequences or multilayer systems; and (c) a Josephson contact as the above cryogenic component.
