PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge the position of a vehicle ahead with suitable timing by providing a judging means judging that the vehicle ahead is running on the same lane as one's own when it is detected that the vehicle ahead is still continuously positioned within the range of a detector radar after the conjectured time has elapsed. SOLUTION: A millimeter wave radar signal process ECU 5 controls the inter-vehicle distance by recognizing a vehicle ahead on the basis of processing a reflected wave signal detected by a radar device 1 and the measurement taken of the distance between the vehicle ahead and the relative speed. Furthermore, the millimeter wave radar signal process ECU 5 is composed of a microcomputer 51, which judges whether the vehicle ahead is on the same lane as one's own on the basis of the data from a speed sensor 2 and a navigation device 3, and the memory of such as a ROM 52 and a RAM 53 having various data stored therein. A cruise ECU 6 controls the speed by adjusting the throttle actuator 7 in accordance with the instruction from the millimeter wave radar signal process ECU 5. Thus a certain inter-vehicle distance can be maintained between the vehicle ahead.
|
