PURPOSE:To dispense with a black matrix on a glass substrate provided with a common electrode by obtaining a state where a liquid crystal in the vicinity of a signal conductor is not displaced except a transfer period, and arranging a polarizing plate not so as to transmit the rays of light in this state. CONSTITUTION:A sample-hold circuit is composed of a capacity element 9 and a transfer gate 10, a video signal L element S is once stored on the capacity element 9 by the sample-hold circuit, and then, written in a picture element capacity element 7 through the transfer gate 10, the signal conductor 4, and a picture element switch 6 for a horizontal blanking time. The signal conductor 4 has the same potential as that of the common electrode 14 by a reset switch 8 except the horizontal blanking time. In this state, the polarizing plates A17 and B17 are attached not so as to transmit the rays of back light. Thus, it is unnecessary that the black matrix is provided on the common electrode 14. |
