PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and correctly detect an abnormality generated in an intake amount detector, and to appropriately detect the off-characteristic generated in the intake amount detector. SOLUTION: An abnormality detecting device of an air flow meter 43 judges whether or not the output voltage value VG of the air flow meter 43 is present in the off-characteristic region in a region in which the throttle opening TA to be outputted from a throttle sensor 44 is equal toθor less. As a result of the judgment, if the output voltage value VG is present in the off- characteristic region, a judgment is made that an abnormality is generated in the air flow meter 43, and an abnormality display lamp WR is lit. In the region where the throttle opening TA is small, only the throttle opening TA is the parameter for the intake air volume, and the abnormality generated in the air flow meter 43 can be easily detected. Because the off-characteristic region is narrow, the offcharacteristic of the air flow meter 43 can also be detected.
