The electrode winding for a fluorescent lamp has a wound tungsten wire (1) that is located on a ferrite core wire (4). The tungsten wire is wound with a filament wire (2) and the centre sectional shape of the coil is circular. The ends of the filament coil are formed as an oval shape by passing around both the tungsten wire and a second core wire (3). This secures the filament coil against any rolling movement.
