PURPOSE: To prepare a tufted carpet excellent in blister resistance and improved in peel strength, using a specific copolymer latex as carpet backing agent. CONSTITUTION: This copolymer latex to be used as a carpet backing agent, is obtained by emulsion copolymerization of 100 pts.wt. of a mixed monomer composed of (A) 20-70wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated diene, (B) 0.5-7wt.% of an ethylene-based unsaturated carboxylic acid and (C) 23-79.5wt.% of another monomer copolymerizable with (A) and (B), in the presence of 0.1-7 pts.wt. of a reactive emulsifier and 0.1-5 pts.wt. of anα-methylstyrene dimer. For this latex, the get content of the copolymer is set at 70-98wt.% and the solid concentration is adjusted, normally to 70-80wt.% with a thickening agent or water.
