PURPOSE: To provide an impact absorbing shaft structure which can exhibit a specified impact absorbing function without being affected by service environmental temperature in the steering device. CONSTITUTION: The serration 16 of an inner shaft 11 is inserted into the serration 15 of an outer shaft 10, and both the shafts are thereby combined with each other by way of serration, a serration combined section comprises its part 20 fixedly pressed in the axial direction, and the pressed-in fixing force is so designed that its pressed-in fixing condition is released when impact force acting on an intermediate shaft 5 to contract its axial length exceeds its specified value. Since a press-in structure is employed as a fixing means for both the shafts 10 and 11, a specified impact absorbing function can thereby be exhibited even in the inside of an engine room in a high temperatures atmosphere. |
