Aluminum effect paints and their use for the coating of packaging

Disclosed are pigments and pigment mixtures consisting essentially of the following components (in percentages of the total quantity of pigment mixture): (a) 0-90 % by weight white nacreous pigment; (b) 0-90 % by weight bismuth oxichloride pigment; (c) 0-90 % by weight aluminium pigment; and (d) 0-90 % by weight white pigment. The following conditions apply: (i) the weight percentages must always add up to 100; (ii) component (a) must be present in the pigment mixture if component (b) is not present and vice versa; and (iii) component (c) must be present in the pigment mixture if component (b) is not present. The proposed pigment mixtures are used to produce aluminium effect paints which, on hardening on steel containers, have the appearance of an aluminium metal surface.
