<p>PURPOSE:To remove growth expediting constituents, discharged out of vegetables, fruits and the like, by a method wherein a refrigerator is provided with a moisture permeating member, provided on a cover of the upper opening section of a reserving vessel, and a lamp, projecting ultraviolet rays against an optical catalyst provided on the moisture permeating member. CONSTITUTION:A cover 9 is provided with a moisture permeating member 10 so as to blockade an opening section to adjust a humidity in a reserving vessel 8. The moisture permeating member 10 is provided integrally with an optical catalyst. Ethylene gas and the like, generated from vegetables or fruits, are collected at the part of the moisture permeating member 10 in the reserving vessel 8 and are contacted with the optical catalyst. Ultraviolet rays am projected from an ultraviolet lamp 12 against the optical catalyst and active agent is generated on the surface of the optical catalyst whereby various chemical reactions especially the decomposing and oxidizing reaction of organic compounds is effected remarkably. Accordingly, the growth expediting constituents of vegetables, such as ethylene, acetaldehyde and the like, are decomposed by the optical catalyst into water, carbon dioxide and the like and removed whereby the progress of growth of vegetables or fruits due to the growth expediting constituents can be restricted.</p> |
