PURPOSE:To automatically discriminate that data communication is performed by starting the light receiving operation of a photodetector before the operation of a light projecting element. CONSTITUTION:This invention is applied to a camera provided with a photoreflector 5 for detecting the bar code of a cartridge 3 and a CPU. When a dummy cartridge connected with a personal computer is loaded in a cartridge chamber and the back cover of the camera is closed, the CPU starts the photodetector receiving element before the light projecting element of the photoreflector 5. When the light receiving element of the photoreflector 5 receives an optical signal in a specified time after it is started, the camera performs the data communication with the personal computer. Meanwhile, when it does not receive the optical signal even though the specified time elapses, the light projecting element is started to perform processing for discriminating the cartridge. |
