PURPOSE:To manufacture many kinds of wide flange shapes in a size-free man ner without deteriorating the productivity even when a wide flange rough bloom of one size is used. CONSTITUTION:In a method for manufacturing a wide flange shape 7 where the bloom is reciprocatingly rolled between two universal roughing mills which are arranged across an edger mill 3 after a stock is roughly rolled to a wide flange rough bloom 6 by roughing mill 1, and formed by a universal finishing mill 5, a variable width type roll 13 is used for a horizontal roll of the forward universal mill 2, and a fixed width type roll 17 is used for a horizontal roll of the rear universal roughing mill 4. In the first pass of the reciprocating pass, the width of the variable width type roll 13 is set to the medium value between the web width W0 of the H-beam rough shape billet 6 which is determined by the roughing mill 1 and the fixed width W2 of the rear horizontal roll 17, and in the second and subsequent passes, the width of the variable width type roll is set to the value of the fixed width W2 of the rear horizontal roll 17. |
