<p>An inclination detector comprises a light source 2 (eg a pulsed infrared LED fixed relative to a computer screen 1) and a relatively movable detector 4 (eg a quadrant detector in an input device 3) for determining the angle between the light from the source and an axis (Z axis) of the detector (eg for controlling a cursor 8 displayed on the screen). The inclination is calculated from the outputs of a plurality of light sensors spaced in X and Y directions and situated behind a rectangular aperture in the detector. Information from the input device 3 may be sent to the computer by wireless transmission (eg infrared) or through a cord, using modulation of a carrier wave. The modulation may comprise a binary signal having pulses of unit length T and twice T. A plurality of spaced sources enables detection of rotation about the Z axis. Alternatively the position of light source on a pen may be detected by triangulation using a plurality of the detectors. … <IMAGE> … </p> |
