PURIFICATION OF SULFUR OXIDE-CONTAINING GAS

PURPOSE:To provide a method capable of efficiently removing impurities such as halides and ammonia from a gas containing a high-concentration SOx without substantially adding supply water. CONSTITUTION:This is related to a method for purifying a high-concentration sulfur oxide-containing gas by supplying the sulfur oxidecontaining gas to the first washing column and the second washing column in order and applying a water washing treatment in each of these two columns to remove impurities such as halides and ammonia. In this purification method, the temperature of the high-concentration sulfur oxide-containing gas at the outlet of the first washing column is controlled to a temperature in which the water content in that gas shows the maximum value or a temperature in its vicinity. The temperature in the second washing column is controlled to a value 20 deg.C or more lower than that at the outlet of the first washing column.
