Safety-belt buckle

The tongue (2) of the buckle has a wider portion fitted to the belt (3) and a narrower one (5) inserted in the housing (1'). In the inserted position a gap is left between the housing and the wider portion of the tongue. There are one or more extensions (11,12) on the tongue or the housing , covering the gap to the side. Where the tongue is inserted in a plastics component, the extension can be formed on the latter, or it can be on a component fitted over the tongue. Where there are two extensions, these can cover the gap on opposite sides.
