Device for illuminating a vehicle or any other article. The invention relates to a device making it possible to illuminate a light-diffusing plate from a bulb placed remotely therefrom. It consists of a casing (1) internally lined with a reflecting film (5), inside which casing a bulb (2) is located, and which casing is connected by means of a bundle of optical cables (6) to one or more plates (8) of transparent or translucent material, which diffuse light. The light source may be a laser. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for illuminating vehicles (motor vehicles, motor cycles, aircraft, boats), three-colour signalling lights or lighting strips or airport runways. <IMAGE>
