<p>PURPOSE: To simply reduce nitrogen oxides by using a substance which is in the molten state at a low temp., and reacts to an exhaust gas directly or after the pre-treatment and which evaporates violently from a liq. phase during the treatment of the exhaust gas with free radical NCO. CONSTITUTION: A first conduit 2 is connected to a conduit 1 for an exhaust gas in a thermal power device, to introduce the gas into a first treating chamber 3. On the other hand, the first treating chamber 3 is connected via a second conduit 4 to a second treating chamber 5. The second treating chamber 5 is filled partially with a starting material 6 such as methyl carbamate, which is heated at the temp. of <= about 100 deg.C to be evaporated from the liq. phase. The formed steam is introduced into the first treating chamber 3, wherein vaporized methyl carbamate is mixed directly with the exhaust gas to carry out pyrolysis of vaporized methyl carbamate with forming HNCO. Decomposition of HNCO finally effects reduction of nitrogen oxides.</p> |
