PURPOSE:To improve the recording density without using an electrode or a magnet by using an evanescent light of a very smaller size than the wavelength as a recording/reproducing/erasing light source and a thermally irreversible photochromic material for a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An He-Ne laser light is passed through a half mirror 3, and the light from an Ar laser 2 is reflected at the mirror 3 and put into a glass fiber 4. The light is cast to a recording medium 9 with the use of a capillary 10 for a minute electrode. The capillary 10 is surrounded by X, Y, Z-axes controlling electrostriction elements 5 in the outer periphery thereof, and a laser signal to the medium 9 is controlled by a position controlling circuit 7. Thereafter, the laser light penetrating the medium 9 is brought into a photoelectric element 6 as a detector and the output from tone element 6 is input to a read signal processing circuit 8. In this constitution, a compound of a diaryl ethene derivative having polystyrene resin dispersed by the concentration of 5wt.% is used for the recording medium 9, and the diameter of an opening of the capillary 10 is approximately 0.1mum. |
