PURPOSE:To provide a navigation system excellent in portability and capable of providing the route to a goal as the information more detail than a map. CONSTITUTION:A present address name is inputted from an input part 11 (SP30), and the present address name is retrieved and called from a data retrieving part in which character information is stored (SP31). It is judged whether the detail present address can be defined only with the inputted present address name or not (SP32), and when the present address can not be defined only with this information, characteristic information is inputted from the input part 11 (SP33). When the present address is determined, a goal name is defined according to the same procedure as in the case of the present address name (SP34-37). When the present address and the goal are defined, the shortest route is retrieved and called from the data in the data retrieving part (SP38), and according to this information, the characteristic information around junctions on the shortest route to the goal is successively displayed (SP39) to guide a user to the goal. |
