PURPOSE: To simply obtain a fiber molding high in fatigue strength at a low cost whose fibers are firmly bonded by a siliceous binder by forming it using fibers having a specific length-diameter ratio, sufficiently impregnating with silicone oil, heating and calcining. CONSTITUTION: Fibers such as alumina fibers of 150μlength and 3μdiameter or whisker fibers are suspended in water and a fiber-impacted body is formed by a sucking method. The impacted body is heated at 80 deg.C for one hour, the remaining water inside the body is removed and low viscosity silicone oil is fully impregnated into the body. The oil-impregnated body is heated at 125-175 deg.C for 0.5-2.5 hours to remove the lowest viscosity component having up to 1 mP.s viscosity value and subsequently it is calcined at 175-500 deg.C for up to 15 hours. Accordingly the objective fiber molding is simply and inexpensively obtained whose fibers or whisker fibers having 3-100, preferably 10-100, length to diameter ratio are firmly bonded to one another by the siliceous binder. |
