The tensioner for belts, chains, etc. esp. for a combustion engine camshaft drive consists of a tension roller (2) mounted on a holder (3). A stack (6) of at least two plates (5) moves the holder (3) into the belts tension-release position druing heating. The stack (6) incorporates plates made of material possessing an alternately high or low coefficient of thermal expansion. Adjacent plates are joined by means of a cavity in one plate, into which fits the tongue of the other plate. ADVANTAGE - The control for a belt tensioner is more reliable.
